Smooth Criminal: Michael Jackson Targets Dentists to Feed
Addiction

According to TMZ.com, the gossip
juggernaut, Michael Jackson frequented dentists to feed his anesthesia
addiction.

As we have already reported, medical professionals have told TMZ Jackson was
an “anesthesia addict,” who would would seek out Propofol and other drugs that
would sedate him or knock him out. Law enforcement is aware of this, sources
say, and dental offices are part of their investigation
(TMZ.com).

In fact, TMZ reported as late as today that the Drug Enforcement Agency(DEA)
in fact contacted a number of pharmaceutical companies in an effort to identify
the individual(s) responsible for purchasing the powerful anesthetic, Propofol, which is believed to
have killed Jackson. Apparently this will be no small task as each vial of
Propofol is marked with just a lot number. There’s potentially a thousand vials
in a lot.

My Take

What’s disturbing to me about this case is not that Michael Jackson was
addicted to illegally-obtained anesthetics, rather the widespread corruption
within our medical/dental communities. Stories like this place a negative stigma
on hard-working, honest doctors and dentists. In this case, it was even reported
that Jackson’s use of dentist’s as a source of anesthetics was widely known.
Yet, no one thought had the guts to report this to authorities.
Sadly, I’m not surprised.
