Dentists: Raw & Uncut

Unfortunately, for those of you hoping to see something akin to “Girls Gone
Wild” only with dentists instead of girls, then I’m sorry. You won’t find that
here. But, if you find it elsewhere let me know. Only kidding.

In fact, the reason I chose that title is because I found it rather fitting
for a piece written by Reader’s Digest in the July issue. In that article,
Reader’s Digest collected candid thoughts from 22 dentists around the country
regarding what they truly think about when they examine your teeth. Some of
their comments were really pretty surprising.

Here’s a few that I found especially interesting:

If your breath is bad, we won’t tell you unless you ask.
– Gary
Herskovits, DDS, family dentist, Brooklyn, New York

Kids with dental problems often struggle in school. They’re distracted and
easily agitated. Teachers will say they have behavior problems, but they really
have toothaches.
– Winifred J. Booker, DDS

If you want to reduce the bad bacteria in your mouth, you should be all over
xylitol [a sugar substitute found in chewing gum]. It changes the chemistry of
your mouth. Six or seven pieces of xylitol gum every day will help keep cavities
away.
– Chris Kammer, DDS
